CMO Cast Member Expectations

Central Mass Onstage is a family-oriented Community Theater Group. What does "Community Theater" mean? It means as a cast, family and friends, we do it all. We create and build our own props, sets, and costumes. We design, create and sell the tickets and we design and print the programs for the show. Our members publicize each production. We do our own lights and sound and music. So we will need the help of all our cast members, families and friends who are interested in helping. But even with all this help it still costs a lot of money to accomplish all that needs to happen to put on a show.

CMO does not charge any membership fees, instead it relies on fundraising. Each cast member is expected to participate in a fundraiser. Did you know that, depending on the selected show, it costs between $8,000 to 12,000 to put on each show? These funds are raised from fundraisers (this year we sold candles), advertisements in the shows programs and ticket sales.

So as you can see, it takes a lot to put a show onto the stage and it's all done by volunteers. So what do we expect from each cast member? We expect the cast to commit to the show. We realize how busy everyone can get, but we need every cast member to be at every rehearsal. If you miss more than a couple of rehearsals we will be talking with you to see whether it makes sense for you to continue. It is difficult to learn the music or dance when the person to the left or in the row in front of you in the chorus is missing, and it's unfair to everyone else.

Other requirements:

  • If you cannot make it to rehearsal, please contact us with as much notice as possible.
CMO Members will find additional contact information on the Cast & Crews Who's who page when you login.
  • Cast members should always show up 10 minutes early for rehearsals ready to go.
  • Dance shoes are to be worn for rehearsals (unless it is specifically posted as a music only rehearsal)
  • Bring a tape recorder to assist you in learning your music parts.
  • Work on music and lines at home so that you come prepared.
  • Water is the only allowed beverage in our rehearsal spaces. We must respect our rehearsal spaces or risk losing their use.
  • Bring a pencil and paper to make notes about blocking and music changes

This will be a fun and wonderful show, but it will take commitment from everyone for it to do so!
